Re-Brand and Relaunch – DevinWorkman.com

After a year in business I have decided to re-brand myself and relaunch the blog and website. As my 1st year in business began drawing to a close I was thinking of new ways to market my photography and a few issues kept coming up when I talked to other professionals I would meet. Because of this I decided to write this post to help out other photographers that may be having similar issues or looking for advice before they start their own business. However none of the below lessons I learned are strictly related to photography. They could apply to any business.

  • My domain name (WorkmanPhoto.com) is a bad one for a few reasons.
    - It uses an abbreviation of Photography instead of the whole name.
    - Another photographer owns a domain that is too similar and clients could easily find their site over mine.
  • My current company name (Workman Photography) is bad for recognition
    - There are a number of photographers with the last name of Workman – this makes it hard to stand out
    - The name is too generic and you could easily substitute myself for another photographer (similar to the above issue). This is bad because as a boutique type business I am selling myself as much as I am selling my photography.

With all that said you can find my re-branded website at devinworkman.com and the new blog is located at devinworkman.com/blog. Looking forward to seeing everyone over there.

Roller Derby! – Prison City Derby Dames

I recently got connected to a roller derby team in Chino Hills through a model from the Cable Air Show Shoot. I have been going to the practices to learn the game more and to practice my sports photography. I will be photographing their first game on February 26th. If you want to come out and support your local roller derby team tickets and info can be found on their website Prison City Derby Dames.

Here you can see the girls in action:

I love it when a photo shoot just works! There were so many great photos that I hard a hard time choosing the best. Erika was such a fantastic model and the clothing designs and style by Trinh at Urban Vintage Soul was fantastic. A special thanks goes out to Amy at One..Two..Cheese as well for inviting me to this shoot.

Cable Air Fair – Upland, CA

This past weekend I joined a group of models and photographers from ModelMayhem at the last minuet for a group shoot. Even though it was cold out there and we really never got sun I had a blast and met some great new people. The models were great troopers since I’m sure they were freezing in 50° weather.
